PhilHealth extends dialysis coverage to 144 sessions


Recognizing that Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 5 (CKD 5) or end stage renal disease is a fatal condition affecting many Filipinos, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) announced that it is extending its coverage for hemodialysis patients from 90 to 144 sessions for the year 2021.

In its PhilHealth Circular No. 2021-0009, which immediately took effect upon its publication on July 2, 2021, the additional coverage from 91st to 144th sessions should be exclusively for outpatient hemodialysis, and that the availing patients are properly registered in the PhilHealth Dialysis Database. Patients can potentially avail of a total coverage of P374,400 this year for their treatment.The state health insurer assured those who have already been dialyzed beyond the 90 sessions prior to the implementation of this extension and have paid their sessions in full may directly file their claims with PhilHealth to get a refund.

PhilHealth also asserted that CKD 5 patients shall be allowed to avail of the maximum of 144 sessions for 2021 based on the prescription of their attending physician. In addition, the extended package is also available to the member’s qualified dependents.Apart from hemodialysis, the Agency is also providing financial support amounting to P270,000 per year to patients who are using peritoneal dialysis instead of hemodialysis. It is also providing a package amount of P600,000 for renal patients who are qualified to its Z Benefits for Kidney Transplantation.
